v1.0: Itch page goes live!
Finally finished up the page and published it!!! sorry if this devlog is a mess, im at a convention right now hiding behind a booth as i write this (long story). im not gonna proofread or edit this so i apologize if its a bit of a mess. anyways! im excited to finally have the page up!
this project started about a month ago, and tbh i dont remember what exactly prompted it. i believe i was working on my first indie project (coming soonish?), and realized i didnt have a good pixel font to use. After doing some research, i found a youtube tutorial about the PixelfontConverter project, and started playing around with different concepts and ideas. the first version of distype was actually the HyperBold variant, which was based on an older concept from a few years ago. after that, i decided to make a few normal fonts as well, which is where distype serif came from. that ended up branching into seriphim and sans. Im not sure if there will be any more variants in the future? but that is a possibility. anyways, once i had all the fonts designed, and they had gone through about 15 rounds of prototyping each, i had some vaguely finished versions.
this project was also uploaded to itch in order for me to get more familiar with the uploading process and how all this works. i have an indie game with a prototype thats about 80% complete, which i hope to upload soon, now that i understand how itch and all this works.
this is a pretty bare-bones edition of the font family, which i hope to expand on in the future. i dont know exactly how i will do that, though, so if you have any suggestions pls leave them in the comments! i might include some characters from other languages to expand the compatibility, for example.
another idea ive got on the backburner is making an 8 bit toki pona font? no idea how ill pull that off though.
uhhh im not sure what else to include in this devlog. kerning is hard and i forgot to fix that when exporting the fonts. oh well!
hopefully some people leave good criticism and i will have a new devlog update in the next few days.
until then, this has been dyst, signing out. peace !!!!!!!
p.s. guide to the the version numbers:
v(X).(Y)
X - the main version number, reserved for major changes (reworking of the whole family, new fonts added, adding a ton of new characters(10-100ish characters)
Y - the secondary version number, reserved for small changes (tweaking the kerning, adding only a few new characters (1-8ish), that sort of thing)
hopefully i stick to this convention lol
anyways thats it bye
